The break is over for the Mississippi State women's basketball team.
On the day after Christmas, the Bulldogs returned to coach Vic Schaefer a little sluggish so they had to get back in shape a bit.
MSU, which hasn't played since defeating Southeastern Louisiana 109-57 on Dec. 20, practiced once last Thursday, twice on Friday and had a long session on Saturday in preparation for tonight's game against in-state opponent Mississippi Valley State. The tip at Humphrey Coliseum is set for 7 p.m. and it's Fan Appreciation Night with free admission to anyone who would like to attend.
The Bulldogs may not have returned as sharp as they needed to be, but Schaefer was glad they were able to spend time with family during Christmas.
After starting the season with a 12-1 record, Schaefer said the time off was deserved.
"It was a good thing," Schaefer said. "They have worked hard and put themselves in a real good position at 12-1. They needed to step away a bit and refresh. Now it's time to get back after it.
"The most important part of the season is in front of us. For us, having momentum going into conference is important."
