SMITH COLUMN: SHS boys win three at Hump

December 29, 2013

SMITH

It was a sweet sweep for the Starkville Yellowjackets at the Travis Outlaw Slam Dunk at the Hump Christmas Classic.
The term "three up and three down" usually pertains to three consecutive outs recorded during an inning of a baseball game.
Starkville has enjoyed those kind of moments in baseball many times, but when it comes to basketball, it did the trick over the course of three days against out-of-state competition at Humphrey Coliseum.
After defeating Parkview out of Arkansas 69-52 on the first day Thursday, the Jackets handled Lausanne Collegiate of Tennessee 51-18 on the second day and wrapped up the action by edging Mt. Lebanon of Pennsylvania 42-39 on Saturday.
Starkville won all three games of the Travis Outlaw Slam Dunk at the Hump this year after dropping all three last season.
With a record of 12-2, the Jackets have played very well to this point of the season under the leadership of coach Greg Carter.
