Dr. Kirk Patrick Arnett

Dr. Kirk Patrick Arnett was born to Mildred Kirkpatrick and Gus Arnett of Columbus, Mississippi on March 29, 1946 and passed away in Starkville, Mississippi on December 19, 2013 after a lengthy cancer battle.
Dr. Arnett graduated S.D. Lee High School in Columbus and held multiple degrees from Mississippi State University where he was professor emeritus of information systems who retired after 36 years in 2008.  He was the MSU Faculty Athletic Representative to the NCAA and SEC from 1996-2005.  Prior to his retirement, he served the information systems arena as a member of the Association of Information Technology Professionals, Decision Sciences Institute, and Association of Information Systems.  He has been awarded the NACADA National Merit Advising Award and been named the outstanding undergraduate teacher, graduate teacher, and researcher by the College of Business.
As a young father, he enjoyed working with the physical and emotional development of Starkville young people.  He served for 15 years as a director of the Starkville Youth Baseball Association, and another 17 years as a director of the Starkville Area Youth Basketball Association.  He was awarded the Starkville Friend of Youth Award by the Starkville Optimist Club in 1985.
In recent life, Kirk was an active member of First Baptist Church of Starkville and its Berean Sunday School Class.  His great pleasure was the Friday Friends Forever Supper Club for all sorts of fellowship and he did bleed maroon and white as a member of the MSU Alumni Association, Bulldog Club, and Lady Basketball Boosters.
Kirk is survived by his wife of 15 years, Maxine (Max), 3 children, 3 step-children, 15 grandchildren and a brother Charles (Susan) of Dallas, Texas, and niece, Amy Arnett Cave (Steve). Kirk’s children are Will (Stephanie), Brian (Tracy), and Carrie Couvillion (Joe), all of Starkville.  His step-children are Kathy Wright of Tupelo, Joey Boykin of Memphis, and Kim Whitten (Whitt) of Madison.  He will be remembered as a God fearing granddad (KP) by his loves, the 15 grandchildren who shared their lives with him.
Visitation for Dr. Arnett is scheduled from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS.  Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Starkville.  Dr. Chip Stevens and Rev. Clifton Curtis will conduct the service.  Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery.
