The 1963 "Game of Change" started with a handshake.
On Sunday afternoon at Humphrey Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi State, two individuals that participated in that game greeted each other again at midcourt.
Mississippi State player Bobby Shows and Loyola's Jerry Harkness took part in a ceremonial handshake at halftime of Sunday's reunion game between the Bulldogs and Ramblers, celebrating the 50-year anniversary of the historic moment.
"It's really good that this game happened," Mississippi State men's basketball coach Rick Ray said. "I know when I first got the job here, (Loyola coach) Porter (Moser) contacted me about doing this and it's a shame that I didn't know anything about the "Game of Change." People outside of Loyola and Mississippi State don't know anything about that game. It's a significant step in NCAA history of basketball.
