The Mississippi State Bulldogs were not as sharp as they wanted to be on Sunday afternoon, but they still had a pretty good Sword.
Sophomore guard Craig Sword scored 24 points, one off his career high, as MSU defeated the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers 65-64 in the "Game of Change" reunion game at Humphrey Coliseum.
With the overtime win, the Bulldogs improved their record to 5-1.
"Overtime games have been good to Mississippi State," MSU coach Rick Ray said in reference to also the football game against Ole Miss last Thursday that also took an extra session. "We really don't want to be in those situations, but to get in there and get a win for both football and basketball, it's a good thing."
The game was a rematch of last year's 59-51 Bulldog loss at the hands of the Ramblers in Chicago.
Sword said he didn't want to see a repeat of what happened last season.
