Mississippi State head coach Rick Ray has been adamant that his team needed to get Gavin Ware more touches in the paint.
His team seemed to listen Tuesday night.
Ware got over 20 touches and scored a career-high 23 points as the Bulldogs rolled to an easy 94-72 victory over in-state foe Mississippi Valley State inside Humphrey Coliseum.Â
"I thought we did a really good job of trying to force feed the ball into the post to Gavin," Ray said.Â
The former Starkville High School standout recorded his second double-double of the season and the fourth of his career, as he pulled down 11 rebounds to go along with his 23 points in just 26 minutes of action.
"I just commend our guards for just working with me in the post, and just trying to get me open looks," Ware said. "It's not my effort. I believe it all starts with their effort, so I just give credit to them."
Ware shot 73 percent (8-of-11) from the field and made seven free throws in 11 attempts.Â
He got the ball in the paint on the first three offensive possessions for MSU and turned that into five points. Ware made the first two shots he took, and was fouled on the third. He was able to knock down one of two free throws.Â
