One thing was already certain going into Starkville’s Friday night contest against Clinton, and that was the fact that the Yellowjackets had already punched their ticket to the Class 6A playoffs.
The only question left to answer was where SHS would end up in the region seedings.
The Jackets came away with the 24-7 victory over the visiting Clinton Arrows to clinched the No. 2 spot in Class 6A, Region 2. Madison Central wraps up the top spot in the division, thanks to Warren Central’s win over Columbus.
“We did what we had to do,” Starkville head coach Jamie Mitchell said. “Even though we’re disappointed that we didn’t take first place, we wrapped up second place and came out and played tough in our final regular season game.”
