The Starkville Academy Volunteers ended the season on a high note Friday night.
With it being senior night, the Vols did not disappoint shutting out Pillow Academy 24-0.
Starkville Academy finished the season with a 5-7 record overall. The key to the Vols big win was their defense which did not allow the Mustangs to score.
Pillow Academy tried to attack with their spread offense which utilizes a lot of motion, misdirection, and allows for their athletic quarterback to make plays. That was not the case on this night because the Volunteer front seven played lights out all night.
Starkville Academy head coach Jeff Terrill credited their success on defense to good technique.
“I just think our kids flew around well and we really just played good assignment defense,” Terrill said. “They did a lot of things on offense with option type reads and stuff and our guys were just where they were supposed to be.”
