Starkville’s aggressive campaign to participate in C Spire’s Fiber to the Home initiative paid dividends Monday as the company tapped the city as one of nine first-round finalists at a press conference in Ridgeland.

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant joined C Spire CEO Hu Meena at company headquarters Monday, where representatives from applicant communities gathered to discover which would be among the first in the state to offer 1 gigabit per second Internet to its residents. C Spire representatives say the 1 gigabit service will be 100 times faster than national average broadband speeds.
