SPD alerts citizens of possible scam

Local authorities and utility providers are urging customers to be aware of a reported utilities scam targeting local consumers.

According to a Starkville Police Department press release, residents have received calls from a scammer claiming to be a local utility provider representative. The caller has threatened to turn off targeted customers’ power if they do not pay immediately over the phone. The caller has demanded personal credit card information in the scam.
