SMITH COLUMN: Museum's open house honors three HoF men

October 20, 2013

Smith

There are not many people who know or remember very much about the baseball career of James "Cool Papa" Bell.
A few more can probably recalls some of the moments of Bailey Howell when he played basketball at Mississippi State University.
Almost everyone has watched Jerry Rice perform his skill as a wide receiver in the National Football League.
The thing that all of those Hall of Fame athletes in their respective sports have in common is they call Starkville and Oktibbeha County home or at least adopted home.
The Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum has scheduled a special open house today to highlight each one of these individuals. Family members of Bell, Howell and Rice will be present and Howell will make a personal appearance between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
