SIM photo contest aims to promote sidewalk ordinance

On Dec. 3, Starkville Community Development Director Bill Snowden will present a comprehensive review of the city’s sidewalk and landscaping ordinances.

The Starkville Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Oct. 1 to assign the review to Snowden. In 2009, the city adopted the sidewalk ordinance, which requires most new developments and redevelopments to come with sidewalks. Ward 1 Alderman Ben Carver voted against it then, and he said he still wanted it gone because it added as much as $50,000 to the costs of opening a small business in the city
