Sanitation Dept. crunches budget after rate bump

A Board of Aldermen-approved rate increase for Starkville residential sanitation customers aims to help the sanitation and environmental safety department balance its budget for fiscal year 2014.

The $1.50 per month increase represents only half the increase department director Emma Gandy asked for, though, and she said balancing her budget without including a general revenue subsidy would be “easier said than done.”
