With one week until the high school football season starts, many teams used the weekend to work on different things in a game-type atmosphere.
That was no different for the Starkville Yellowjackets.
The Jackets beat New Hope 17-7 Saturday night at Davis Wade Stadium on Mississippi State's campus in a preseason jamboree hosted by the Trojans.
"We've just got a lot of things to work on," SHS head coach Jamie Mitchell said in his postgame comments.
The Yellowjacket defense, especially the rush defense, stole the show.
The Trojans only managed 3 yards on the ground against Mitchell's defense.
"I thought we totally took the run game away," Mitchell said. "When you can make a team one dimensional, you can really turn it up."
