It was a good start to the Starkville Academy Invitational Saturday for the home team.
Pitcher Karlie Lockhart hurled a two-hitter and the offense provided enough run support as the Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers defeated the Jackson Victors 6-3 in the opening game of the event at the Starkville Sportsplex.
The Lady Vols scored five runs in the second inning and got the break-through on offense that coach Kayla Mosley was looking for.
"We finally got some hits to fall with runners on base and that was big for us," Mosley said. "I wanted someone to come up with a big hit."
