SMITH COLUMN: Once again, MSU looking for respect

July 16, 2013

Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen will have some explaining to do today at Southeastern Conference Media Days.
Once again the Bulldogs are having a difficult time gaining national respect in the preseason.
A few weeks ago Phil Steele came out with his bowl projections for the postseason and MSU was not to be found in that listing.
The USA Today has the Bulldogs ranked at No. 64 in its college football countdown poll. If that turns out to be true, then MSU will have trouble getting in on the postseason fun.
Flip 64 around and Lindy's College Football Preseason Magazine is a little more generous to the Bulldogs having them ranked No. 46 in the nation.
