Spirit of Oktibbeha - Cooks makes mark on Starkville’s kids

June 24, 2013

Johnie Cooks’ name isn’t an unfamiliar one in Starkville.

Cooks, a linebacker, is perhaps best known for his time on the field. He played football for Mississippi State University from 1978-81, earning All SEC honors for his 1980-81 campaigns. He was selected in the first round of the 1982 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts. Cooks was the second overall pick of the draft — the highest in Mississippi State history.
