After a 28-year run with the Starkville Fire Department, ladder truck No. 2 will hang up its hoses. The department welcomed its replacement Wednesday, a new custom-built engine complete with a 75-foot aluminum ladder, a more modernized and easily serviceable puc pump, and dual foam capabilities for combating standard fires and those involving accelerants.
Mark McCurdy, Starkville fire marshal, said the No. 2 engine had been in commission since 1986, and had run the course of its life-span as assigned by the Mississippi State Rating Bureau.
