Known as "The Hummingbird Lady of Oktoc," Rebecca Cowsert White Nash passed away May 17, 2013. Born March 3, 1930, to William C. and Florence Stone Cowsert she was the youngest of four children.
Having never met an obstacle she could not overcome, she operated a dairy farm and established Rebecca's Gifts and Draperies. After selling Rebecca's Gifts and Draperies she continued designing and constructing beautiful draperies. Since her retirement she continued creating and giving. She never met a stranger be it two legged or four legged. A member of First United Methodist Church, the Chamber of Commerce and Oktoc Garden Club she was touched by and touched the lives of many people in this area.
Rebecca was pre-deceased by her parents, first husband, John M. White, second husband, Charlie B. Nash, daughter, Mary Elizabeth White, siblings, Mary Oakley, Sue Harper and Willie Cowsert. She is survived by her son, John C. White (Patsy) of Stewart, MS, daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Ray (Chris Curry), grandchildren John B. White, William E. White, Elizabeth W. Perry, Justin Ray and Zack Ray, and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by the many people she loved as her own, especially Patrick Quinn and Garcia Gerald Berry.
In her spirit of giving totally of herself she provided for an anatomical donation to the University of MS Medical Center. Memorial Donations can be made to Oktibbeha County Humane Society, First United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 26 at 3:00 p.m.
