Mr. Dalton Lee Miller, 90, passed away April 29, 2013 at his home in Starkville, MS.Â He was the son of the late Clint and Pearl Miller of Blue Springs, MS; brother of the late Otis K. Miller of Laurel, MS and A. Bernard Miller of Grenada, MS; husband of 54 years to Juanita C. Miller, who passed away August 20, 2001; father to Molly E. Miller, who passed away September 16, 2009.Â
He is survived by his sons, Lee Andrew (Gwen) Miller of Starkville, MS, Timothy Dalton (Danette) Miller of Houston, TX, and Orin Hyman (Cindy) Miller of Starkville, MS; grandchildren, Kyle S. Miller and Jordan J. Miller of Houston, TX, Ashleigh N. Miller and Morgan E. Miller of Starkville, MS; nephew, James Miller of Houston, TX; nieces, Margret Green of Columbus, MS, Balinda Miller of Laurel, MS and Patricia Miller of Grenada, MS; and his Beloved, Evelyn Pritchard of Tupelo, MS.Â
He was a member of Starkville Church of Christ and also served as Elder for several years.Â He was very active in the Oktibbeha County Agriculture Club and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.Â He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, where he taught swimming to Navy recruits; He received his BS from Mississippi State University in 1950 in Agricultural Engineering.Â He went to work for Pontotoc County Power Association and raised chickens in Pontotoc.Â He moved to Starkville in 1958 and went to work for the Extension Service.Â He continued his education and received a Masters in Agricultural Engineering in 1970.Â He continued to work for the Extension Service until he retired in 1985.Â He received a Distinguished Service Award in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 1985 from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents for his leadership in The Agricultural Engineering Department and design of swine facilities from farrowing through finishing that are second to none in the country and grain drying and storage systems design.
He enjoyed the outdoors, drinking coffee with buddies, crappie fishing and gardening.Â He was passionate about donating to causes such as St. Jude Children's Hospital and The Easter Seals.Â
He started a carwash business in 1965 and continued to grow and build the business until he passed.Â
Visitation for Mr. Miller is scheduled for Friday, May 3, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Starkville Church of Christ.Â Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Starkville Church of Christ.Â Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery in Starkville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital and Palmer Home for Children.Â
