Mary Stubbs

Mary Gray Gieger Stubbs passed away on March 29, 2013, at Gilda’s Place in Ridgeland. She was 97 years old.

She was a homemaker, teacher and business book keeper. Mary Gray was a member of First Methodist Church of Starkville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Gieger and Lida Critz Gieger, husband Archie Stubbs, son Richard Stubbs and sisters Martha Reynolds and Ann Daigle.

She is survived by her son Fred Stubbs (Ilene) of Valrico, Fla., daughter Lida Reed (Maurice) of Brandon grandchildren Richard Stubbs Jr. Roger Stubbs, Bethany Stubbs Clawson, Penny Stubbs Wiseman, Beth Reed Christman and Ginger Reed Randall and 17 great-grandchildren. Mary Gray graduated from Starkville High School in 1934. She attended Mississippi State College and Ole Miss. At Mississippi State, she was a cheerleader and founding member of the Zeta Tau Alpha chapter. She lived in Okinawa, Japan and the Panama Canal Zone as the wife of an Army officer. Her passion was for young people and she worked tirelessly with teens within the church and the military community.

Visitation is scheduled from 10-11 a.m. at Welch Funeral Home on Wednesday. Funeral service will follow at the Welch Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside services for the family only will be at Oddfellows Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude.
