Brewster leaves Mississippi State for Florida State

The Mississippi State football staff was in place after the hiring of wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales.

That is all the past now.

It was reported on Wednesday and confirmed on Thursday, that MSU tight ends coach and assistant head coach Tim Brewster is heading to coach at Florida State.

Noles247.com was one of the first media outlets to report that Brewster's move to FSU was official. The site also reported that Brewster will serve as recruiting coordinator.

Brewster is the third assistant coach to leave the Bulldogs since the end of the 2012 season. Defensive coordinator Chris Wilson went to Georgia, and cornerbacks coach Melvin Smith left for Auburn.

The time for Brewster in Starkville was less than a year. He was hired to coach the wide receivers last August and was moved to tight ends coach with the hiring of Gonzales.

"He did a good job for us," MSU head coach Dan Mullen said at a charity event Thursday evening.

Brewster, who will coach tight ends for the Seminoles, had joined right before the 2012 season after wide receivers coach Angelo Mirando resigned.

Mullen moved former tight ends coach Scott Sallach to a position off the field to make room for Gonzales.

Mullen has been busy in the offseason and really made no indication of his future plans when reporters talked to him at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Golden Triangle charity Fundraiser at East Mississippi Community College, Golden Triangle campus Thursday night.

He did say moving Sallach back to tight ends coach is a possibility.

"There's a good chance," Mullen said. "Since that all just happened (Wednesday), I haven't really had a chance to sit down and go through all that stuff yet."
