Lady Wolverines’ see season come to an end

February 21, 2013

East Webster

FOREST- Playing against a Dandy Dozen is never easy and on Thursday East Webster found out just how hard that can be
.
Tipping off against Scott Central which features Victoria Vivians, the Lady Wolverines dropped a 49-36 contest to bring the 2012-2013 campaign to an end.

“We had a good year,” East Webster coach Mandy Jewell said. “We finished 23-6, learned a lot and the younger girls got a lot of experience for next year.”

East Webster and Scott Central were close the entire ballgame, but none more than as the halftime buzzer sounded. With the score standing 27-24, the Lady Rebels carried a three-point lead into the locker rooms.

Action continued to be tight throughout the third period. Outscored 13-10, heading into the final period East Webster trailed 40-34.

Though they were facing one of the top basketball prospects in the state, the Lady Wolverines never gave up.

Despite only scoring two points in the final minutes of competition, East Webster held Scott Central to nine to end its season with a 13-point loss.

Three Lady Wolverines posted nine points. Quantesha Patterson, Katesa Dear and Mamie Hollenhead all tied for highest point total to lead East Webster offensively in the final game of the season.

Leading the way for Scott Central was Vivians who ended her night with 34 points. Although the team was not able to hold Vivians to under 25-30 as hoped, Jewell is proud of the way the Lady Wolverines “slowed her down” to give the team a chance at winning.

With the win Scott Central advances to face the winner of Bassfield-Bay Springs tonight at 7:30 p.m.
