TAYLORSVILLE – The Eupora Eagles were a bit short-handed when they tipped off against Taylorsville.
In the end that was one of the deciding factors as the Eagles dropped a 51-43 contest.

“It was a tough game and in the end, we lost by eight points,” Eupora coach Bryant Thomas said. “We came down here with three of our players out. We played hard enough to win, but we just couldn’t pull it off.”

Despite being a few players down, Eupora managed to stay with Taylorsville the entire game and halftime only trailed by two with the score standing 28-26.

Led by Derrick Jones with 12 points, the Eagles were not able to overcome being down and in the end saw their season end with an eight-point loss.

In his second year as head coach at Eupora, Thomas is hopeful as he looks towards the future for the Eagles.

“This year was better than last year,” Thomas said. “Both programs are going in the right direction. The kids are buying in and that’s the first thing you need.”

BAY SPRINGS – Things did not swing the way of the Wolverines on Tuesday.

After its game with Bay Springs, East Webster saw its season end with a loss to the Bulldogs.

"They made the shots (Tuesday) night," East Webster Corey Stidham said. "Their quickness on defense gave us trouble all game."

In the first period, Bay Springs took control of the game and held a 28-14 lead after the completion of one period.

The Bulldogs extended their lead during the second portion of the half. Adding on 23 points, Bay Springs led the Wolverines 45-25 at the halftime break.

Lone senior Malik Jones lead the way for the Wolverines scoring 12 points.

"(Malik) Jones meant a lot to us," Stidham said. "He stepped up and took the leadership role for us. He is a great person and loves the game of basketball."
