It was a case of not keeping up with the Jones.

Horn Lake quarterback Raydarious Jones scored on a pair of long touchdown runs and Nakoba Dean also had two scores as the Eagles knocked off the Starkville Yellow Jackets 35-14 on Friday night.

The Jackets saw their run to repeat as Class 6A North State champions end with a disappointing loss and their final record fell to 11-2.

In the first quarter, Jones started his big night with a 90-yard burst for a touchdown with 2:46 remaining.

Dean got his first score of the game with a 15-yard run with 9:09 left in the second quarter as the Eagles moved up to a 14-0 advantage.

Starkville was able to score before halftime when Luke Altmyer tossed a touchdown pass to Rufus Harvey and Horn Lake took the 14-7 lead into intermission.

Jones, who had 15 carries for 184 yards in the game, found the end zone again on a 50-yard run with 7:43 showing on the third quarter clock and the Eagles stretched the margin to 21-7.

Dean followed Jones' second touchdown with his second with 1:47 remaining in the third quarter and Horn Lake built a 28-7 lead.

After Rodrigues Clark scored a touchdown for the Jackets at the 6:21 mark of the fourth quarter, the Eagles put the finishing touches on the night with a Patrick Gilliam score with 2:07 left in the game.

Altmyer finished the game for SHS by completing 17-of-33 pass attempts for 217 yards and the touchdown to Harvey, who had two catches for 66 yards.

In the rushing department for the Jackets, KJ Lawrence had six carries for 26 yards, but Clark only had minus-6 yards on 12 carries.

Horn Lake had lost all 18 meetings to Starkville coming into the matchup, but the latest triumph puts the Eagles into next week's Class 6A North State title game against Madison Central.
