Starkville man arrested of Smokehouse embezzlement

A Starkville man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly embezzling money from 1883 Smokehouse.

Brandon Travonte Jefferson, 24, was arrested by the Starkville Police Department and taken into the custody of the Oktibbeha County Jail on the embezzlement charge around 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

A document obtained by the Starkville Daily News through a public information request states Jefferson embezzled $3,414.42 during his employment at 1883 Smokehouse from Sept. 3 to Sept. 26.

Jefferson appeared in Starkville Municipal Court Thursday afternoon, and his bond was set at $5,000.

He currently remains in the custody of the Oktibbeha County Jail. For his embezzlement charge, Jefferson faces up to five years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines.
