SHS uses big inning to beat Columbus in softball

The Starkville Lady Yellow Jackets used a five-run fourth inning to defeat Columbus 6-4 in home softball action on Tuesday.

After the Lady Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, they added a run in the fourth inning before the Lady Jackets scored the five runs.

The two teams traded runs in the fifth, but Starkville held Columbus scoreless in the next two frames to take the victory.

The Lady Jackets only had three hits in the game with a single each by Brianne Locke, Ally Barefield and Chyna Hornburger. Jaleeyah Armstead drove in two runs without a hit, while Locke, Hornburger, , JacQuasha Brown and Debria Norris had one RBI each.

Locke, Barefield, Hornburger, Brown, Summer McDonald and Olivia Mattison scored one run each.

Takerra Smith pitched all seven innings for SHS. She gave up nine hits but had five strikeouts.
