It was the Rodrigues Clark show early on Friday night, then the passing game took over later as the Starkville Yellow Jackets retained the Little Egg Bowl Trophy with a 56-7 victory over Oxford.

The Jackets (2-0) were impressive in both rushing and passing as they picked up 185 yards on the ground and 298 yards through the air.

It was Clark that did all of the damage in the first half as his three touchdowns gave SHS a 21-7 advantage at halftime.

Clark's successful night began with a 16-yard touchdown at the 4:11 mark of the first quarter and the Jackets led 7-0.

After Oxford tied the score at 7-7 on a quarterback sneak by John Meagher with 10:23 remaining in the second quarter, Clark put SHS back on top 14-7 with a 1-yard run with 7:10 left in the second quarter.

The Jackets put a little breathing room in between themselves and the Chargers when Clark broke loose for a 45-yard scoring run with 3:40 remaining in the second quarter.

To begin the second quarter, Starkville struck quickly to go up 28-7 with a four-play, 80-yard drive. Rufus Harvey had a big gain off a screen pass, then KJ Lawrence did the rest from the 15-yard line for the score.

The Jackets went to the air for the rest of their touchdowns of the game. quarterback Luke Altmyer had two of the scoring passes to Tae Lucious and Atavius Jones in the third quarter, then backup signal caller Nyjal Johnson took over in the fourth quarter and had two passes for points of his own with one going to Josh Aka and the second went to Lucious, which got his second score of the game.

Altmyer completed 16 of 21 pass attempts for 206 yards, while the leading receiver for SHS was Rufus Harvey with six catches for 106 yards.

Clark was the leading rusher for the Jackets with 11 carries for 109 yards.

Starkville returns home next week for another rivalry matchup against West Point.
