Denim and Diamonds fundraiser set for Saturday

The Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum will host their annual Denim and Diamonds fundraiser on Saturday at the Starkville Country Club with dinner, live music and raffle.

The fundraiser will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Friends of the Museum Board member Joan Wilson said Denim and Diamonds, along with the annual membership drive, is the primary fundraiser for the museum each year.

"The money raised will go toward general improvements to the museum, but also fellowships," Wilson said. "We give a fellowship out each year to a Mississippi State University Student to be in charge of the grounds, and also one to do programming for the museum."

Friends of the Museum Board President said Suzanne Dressel said the Starkville Country Club will provide the meal of pulled pork with pepper jack cheese grits, bacon and brown sugar glazed green beans, a salad bar, dinner rolls, peach cobbler and ice cream.

Dressel said attendees will also receive a complementary drink ticket to the bar, and a cash bar will be available.

Jimmy Bonner and Bill Davis Duo will provide the entertainment for the evening.

Dressel said the duo will perform classic hits from the 50's, 60's and 70's.

During Denim and Diamonds, Dressel said the Ava Moore Award will be given to a member of the community who has given their time and energy to preserving Oktibbeha County's history through the museum.

"It will be a great night of dinner, dancing and fellowship," Dressel said.

A raffle for jewelry will also take place, adding to the Denim and Diamonds theme, Wilson said. Raffle tickets cost $10 for one ticket or $20 for three tickets.

"It's really casual," Wilson said. "People dress up in their denim and diamonds, and there's music and dancing. You pay $40 and get a great dinner and fun night."

Tickets are available for $40 each but are in short supply. To purchase a ticket, contact Dressel at (662) 769-7671.
