SPD investigating Thursday night shooting at The Block

The Starkville Police Department is looking for suspects after a man was shot during an incident at a Starkville apartment complex late Thursday night.

A heavy police presence made up of investigators from the Starkville Police Department and Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Department were on scene at The Block Townhomes in the 600 block of South Montgomery Street on Thursday night after officers responded to a report of a shooting around 10:20 p.m.

SPD confirmed that investigators are actively looking for "suspects" and are encouraging any witnesses to come forward who may have knowledge of the shooting. The department also said the adult male victim suffered from gunshot wounds and was transported by Pafford EMS to OCH Regional Medical Center, where he was then airlifted to another hospital.

Oktibbeha County EMS Director Michael Hunt confirmed that the victim was transported to OCH from the scene and immediately airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

He could not confirm the victim's identity or the extent of his injuries. 

As of Friday morning, no one has been officially charged in the shooting, according to Oktibbeha County Jail records.

At the scene, the east end of the complex off of South Montgomery Street was cordoned off and investigators could be seen bringing out evidence from inside a single apartment unit. Additionally, several cars were also roped off and included in the investigation.
