Critz Street to close for road work

Staff Writer

Drivers in Starkville will have to find alternate routes around Critz Street Tuesday and Wednesday due to some road work.

The city of Starkville announced Friday it would be replacing a pipe crossing Critz at the approximate location of 321 Critz St., immediately east of the intersection of Critz Street and Moncrief Park Street. Through the duration of the repair, Critz will be closed to through traffic. The road will close at 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, and will remain closed until 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 25.

“We’re just replacing a storm drain all the way across the road,” said Starkville Street Superintendent Larry Black.

Black said drivers would need to take alternate routes to avoid the construction. However, care will be taken to maintain access to adjacent residences.

“We were going to do it Monday, but the rain came in, and then they had that water main blow up over there on Spring (Street) and (Highway) 12,” Black said. “When they get through with that, I guess that’s when they’re going to come over here.”

Black said the project could take less than two days, but it was difficult to know for sure before the work began.

“You never know what you’re going to run into under these streets,” Black said.

In the event of inclement weather, the project may be pushed back.
