The city of Starkville received a total of three awards during this year’s Mississippi Main Street Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon.

The first award went to Starkville Main Street Board President Michelle Jones, who was named Main Street Hero. This award recognizes one outstanding community leader or public figure who has displayed an involved commitment to downtown and his or her Main Street program.

The second award went to the Starkville Police Department, who received the organization’s Outstanding Rehabilitation Project for the newly-renovated headquarters in downtown Starkville.

SPD also recently received the Mississippi Heritage Trust award for the project.

The third and final award went to the city for the renovation of the Russell Street corridor for the most Outstanding Public Improvement.

Interim CEO for the Greater Starkville Development Partnership Jennifer Prather said she is ecstatic to have the city's members recognized for their time and hard work.

Prather said Starkville Main Street is committed to continually investing in the development of the downtown district. She said it ensures that Starkville will remain sustainable and competitive in recruiting and retaining visitors, residents and businesses.

"The growth and vitality that Starkville is experiencing is attributed to the work of so many strong partners in economic development and preservation" Prather said. "We are honored to receive statewide recognition for our community."
