Multiple Starkville businesses are hosting celebrations on Saturday for Cinco de Mayo, a holiday commemorating the Mexican Army's difficult victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862.

Rick's Cafe manager Ryan Handran said Rick's Cafe will hold a volleyball tournament with cash prizes beginning at 1 p.m. with Ohara's Drag show to follow at 8 p.m.

Handran said everything will be on sale until 7 p.m., and then a drink special on margaritas will last all night.

Eat Local Starkville owner Brian Kelley said Bin 612, located at 612 University Dr. in the Cotton District, will feature $2 tacos and $3 margaritas all day in recognition of the holiday.

Cowbells Sports Bar will host Cinco de Glo-O beginning at 10 p.m., a neon glow party with a live DJ, drink and food specials and more. Attendees are encouraged to wear glow-in-the-dark clothing for the celebration.

Apart from Starkville's bars, the town's Tex-Mex restaurants will also host Cinco de Mayo celebrations.

Casa Bravo, located at 123 Highway 12, will host a Cinco de Mayo celebration all day beginning at 11 a.m. with specials, giveaways, a beer truck, outdoor games, face painting and music by DJ Glotron.

La Terraza, located at 111 Eckford Dr., will feature $12.99 margarita pitchers and $2 import and domestic beers on Saturday, along with other special items that will be announced on Cinco de Mayo.
