Vols claim third-straight by edging Copiah 61-57
GALLMAN â€“ The Starkville Academy Volunteers won their third-straight game and the fourth in the last five outings by defeating Copiah Academy 61-57.
After falling behind 17-9 at the end of the first quarter, the Vols wrestled the lead away from the home team by outscoring their hosts 18-15 in the second quarter and 17-8 in the third.
Starkville Academy, which improved to 4-5 overall, shot 49 percent (20-of-41) from the field. The Vols had 60 points in the paint.
Carnail Minor scored 20 points to lead SA, while Caleb Merchant added 14 points. Minor and Brandon Sharpe had six steals each. Sharpe had eight rebounds.

GALLMAN â€“ The Lady Volunteers put up a fierce defensive effort on the road.
Improving to 11-0 this season, the Lady Vols jumped out to a 19-5 lead after the first quarter and increased the margin to 32-12 by halftime. Starkville Academy only allowed seven points in the second half.
The Lady Vols held Copiah to 23 percent (7-of-31) from the field and SA had a 26-16 edge in rebounding.
Tiffany Huddleston led the Lady Vols with 16 points and she had four steals. Maggie Proffitt was next in the scoring column with 12 points.
Anna Lea Little had six rebounds to lead SA.
After playing all of their games on the road thus far, the Lady Vols make their home debut today against Parklane Academy.
