Part of one of the city’s busier arteries was closed on Thursday, but is expected to reopen Friday morning as city crews put work in on a new development.

Traffic cones marked off a portion of Jackson Street near the intersection of Lampkin Street on Thursday afternoon.

The city closed the stretch of road as Starkville Utilities crews worked to add new sewer and water lines to the new development next door to the Starkville Daily News building.

The portion of road closed runs from the Lampkin Street intersection to the Jackson Street side of where B.J.’s Family Pharmacy is located.

Officials warn to drive carefully through the area.
