SA teams pick up wins on the road
PELAHATCHIE â€“ The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers have reached the 10-win mark already this season after defeating East Rankin Academy on the road 59-37 on Tuesday night.
Starkville Academy jumped out to an 18-7 lead after the first quarter and kept that 11-point lead at halftime 29-18.
The Lady Vols continued to build upon their advantage throughout the second half by outscoring their host 30-19.
SA shot 43 percent (26-of-61) from the field and had a 27-20 rebounding edge on ERA.
Sallie Kate Richardson had 17 points to lead the Lady Vols and she also pulled down eight rebounds.
Maggie Proffitt contributed 15 points in only 8 minutes of play and she had six boards. Anna Lea Little scored in double digits with 10 points.
Starkville Academy took care of the basketball with only six turnovers as a team. The Lady Vols had eight assists and did not allow East Rankin an assist.
There is one more road game at Copiah Academy on Friday before the SA teams finally play a home game this season against Parklane Academy on Saturday.

PELAHATCHIE â€“ The Vols won their second-straight game behind the 16 points of Carnail Minor.
"Carnail got hot to start the third quarter and kind of got us going," Starkville Academy boys coach Mark Alexander said.
The Vols built a 10-point lead and held onto the lead down the stretch.
Starkville Academy has also won three of its last four games to improve its record to 3-5. The Vols are 1-1 in the conference.
