Community hosts Easter services, egg hunts

The Starkville Parks and Recreation Department kicked off the Easter celebrations on Monday with an Easter egg hunt, but for those who missed the hunt at the Sportsplex, there will be many other Easter egg hunts in Starkville throughout the week.

Starkville’s parks will be full of Easter egg hunters over the weekend.

On Good Friday, Meadowview Baptist Church will host an Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. at McKee Park, located at 405 Lynn Lane.
On Saturday, Life Church will host an Easter Egg hunt at 11 a.m. with 2,000 eggs, free food and prizes, and The Orchard will host a hunt at 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Both will take place at McKee Park.

Also on Saturday, The Exquisitely Unique Egg Hunt will take place at 1 p.m. at J.L. King Senior Memorial Park, located at 400 North Long St.

To celebrate Easter, churches throughout Starkville are holding special Easter services throughout the weekend.

Pinelake Church will be open all day for Good Friday Prayer from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. for a time of prayer, reflection and communion.

Pinelake’s Easter service, entitled “Foolish Faith” will be held a 6 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday.

First Baptist Church Starkville will celebrate Easter with services at 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

St. Joseph Catholic Church will hold Good Friday Mass at 7 p.m. Friday, Easter Vigil Mass at 8 p.m. on Saturday and Mass at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Easter Sunday.

Starkville First United Methodist Church will hold a church-wide Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. for two-year-olds through third graders. The Easter Bunny will also attend for pictures. An After Dark Egg Hunt for fourth through sixth graders will be at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in the Christian Life Center.

Starkville FUMC will also host a Maundy Service with Bishop James Swanson at 6 p.m. Thursday. A Good Friday service will be held at 6 p.m. On Easter Sunday, FUMC will hold a 7 a.m. Sunrise service at Connection, a traditional service at 8:40 a.m. and a traditional and Connection service at 11 a.m.

The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection will hold a Good Friday service at noon, “The Great Vigil of Easter” at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, and services on Easter Sunday at 8 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
