’10 murder suspect surrenders after Tuesday shooting

November 28, 2012

Starkville Police Department confirmed Dennis Martell Thompson turned himself in to authorities at approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday just hours after SPD issued a release announcing a warrant for his arrest on an aggravated assault charge.

He is being held on a $100,000 bond.

According to the release, SPD began searching for Thompson after a shooting incident in which he was allegedly involved Tuesday night at Yellow Jacket Mobile Home Park on 903 1/2 Louisville St.

At the time the release was issued, authorities said Thompson was considered armed and dangerous.

SPD Detective William Durr said officers arrived at the location at approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday to find that a victim had been shot once. The victim is currently in stable condition and is expected to recover, Durr said.

Durr would not comment on how many gunshots were fired or what type gun Thompson allegedly used due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. He also could not release information on where Thompson was last seen.

Thompson is out on bond from a murder charge and three counts of aggravated assault stemming from an incident in May 2010 in which one person, 25-year-old Starkville resident Curtis “C.K.” Randle, was fatally shot and three others were wounded. Thompson was accused at the time of firing shots from a .40-caliber handgun into a crowd leaving a Starkville High School after-graduation party outside a Douglas Conner Drive venue.

Municipal Court affidavits charging Thompson with Randle’s murder and the three cases of aggravated assault state he confessed to the shootings in a statement.
