Bulldog Lanes in Starkville was the site of the season home opener for the Starkville High bowling teams, as the Yellowjackets split 6-6 with opponent Neshoba Central.

“I thought our team did good,” SHS bowling coach Jim Philamlee said. “I was especially impressed with their attitude about competition.”

The Jackets split their day with the Rockets as each team won three of the six frames.

Cody Prewitt was the leading bowler for SHS as he bowled 163, 177 and 174 in his three games. Prewitt was followed by teammate Hugh Stone whose day included bowling a team high 212 in between games that saw him bowl 168 and 127.

The Lady Jackets also split their day with the Lady Rockets, as Skyler Runnels and Amber Miller led the Starkville girls’ charge.

Runnels bowled the highest scores for the Lady Jackets as her day ended with game scores of 130, 165 and 184. Miller was right on Runnels’ heels as she bowled 110, 123 and 103 to conclude her day. Akala Greenwood was next bowling a couple of 107s and an 88, followed by Vanessa Collins who finished at 110, 99 and 113.

This was the first match ever for Neshoba Central, who is also in its first year of competition.

“I was impressed with Neshoba Central,” Philamlee said. “This is their first year and this was their first match. They competed well.”

Starkville competes against Neshoba Central once again Nov. 29 in Philadelphia.
