The Starkville 12-year-old All-Stars got off to a good start in Sunday's South State Tournament game at McKee Park and held off a Caledonia rally at the end to take a 6-4 win.
With the victory, Starkville advanced to Monday's championship game at 6 p.m.
"We're excited to be playing in the championship game," Starkville coach Russ McReynolds said. "We're still in good shape with our pitching with several guys available. I think we are in a good spot."
Starkville scored three runs in the second inning and two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead.
After Caledonia got its first run in the fourth inning, Starkville got an RBI base hit from Newt Thomas to drive in a run and extended the margin to 6-1.
Caledonia hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
"We were able to hit up and down the lineup," McReynolds said. "Six runs was enough."
