EUPORA – Eupora may be returning everyone to its Lady Eagle basketball team, but there is one new addition to the team in 2012-2013.
With the retirement of Curtis Ford, Bryant Thomas not only coaches the boys but also enters his first stint at coaching girls’ basketball.
“I was told by several of my mentors that you coach girls just like you coach boys,” Thomas said. “I am taking that approach and pushing those girls just as hard as I do my boys. I have found that if you push them and they buy into you, then it is a winning combo.”
Though he might not have been with the team all that long, Thomas is already excited about what the season has to offer for his “athletic team that plays up and down the court” and that he believes can “compete with anyone.”
The Lady Eagles may have returned all of their starters, but they are still a young team that is highlighted by four sophomores.
“The key is that these girls moved up in 7th grade," Bryant said. "The playing experience they have gotten has helped them mature and prepare for their current roles.”
Joining the four sophomores on the court will be senior Sydney Simmons who has three years experience under her belt and has proven that she can be a threat both offensively and defensively.
The Lady Eagles have set their season goals pretty high.
“This year our motto is play to win,” Thomas said. “We want to change the culture. Every game is a new game and every game is a big game. If we can keep those things in mind then we can achieve our main goal of winning district.”
Thomas and the Lady Eagles play at Calhoun City on Nov. 27.View more articles in:
