Anti-tobacco events scheduled across Mississippi


Thousands of youth nationwide will participate in a campaign to curb tobacco use, with many events taking place across the state on March 15.

Kick Butts Day focuses attention on how tobacco companies market their products to young people, according to a press release from the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

The Mississippi Tobacco Free Coalition of Oktibbeha, Clay and Lowndes counties will host an event in Columbus featuring a motive speaker and informational booths to educate attendees about the dangers of tobacco use.

The event in Columbus is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

A cigarette butt cleanup around the Boys and Girls Club on 14th Avenue North.

Maben will give a road adoption proclamation on Wednesday and Controllers Generation II 4-H Club will lead a cigarette butt cleanup. Prizes will be award for those who collect the most. The event is scheduled for 1 p.m.
