Butch Withers

CLINTON — Mr. Butch Withers, 68, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at Providence Presbyterian Church in Clinton with Rev. John Reeves and Rev. Jason Sebron officiating. The family available one hour before the service.
Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Shelton Cemetery in Pattison.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home.
Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home of Clinton is in charge of arrangements.

Butch was born in Memphis, Tenn., and lived in Lake Cormorant. He was a graduate of Tunica High School and received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Mississippi State University in animal science and ruminant nutrition.

He was Superintendent of the Pontotoc Ridge Flatwoods Branch Experiment Station in Pontotoc, and then Head of the Animal Research Centers at MSU, both with MAFES. He then served as Head at the Research and Extension Center in Raymond, with Extension. He retired in 2006 after 35 years of service.

Butch was a charter member and Ruling Elder of Grace Presbyterian Church in Starkville, and was a current member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Clinton. He was involved with several professional, as well as civic, organizations. While in Starkville, he was faculty advisor for Reformed University Fellowship and Kappy Sigma Fraternity.

Butch leaves his wife of 44 years, Carolyn; daughter, Shelly Withers of Clinton, and Elizabeth (Jon) Kilgore of Hebron; brothers, David (Felicia) Withers of Lafayette, La., and Sterling (Lilibeth) Withers of Tunica; sisters, Camilla Withers of Memphis, Tenn., and Mary Lou (Jerry) Pendergraft of Collierville, Tenn.

He also leaves behind the best part of his heart, his grandchildren, Jay Slater of Prentiss, Anna Margaret and Hayden Kilgore of Hebron and McKinnon Garrard of Clinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Margaret Withers; and an infant son.

Pallbearers will be Jon Kilgore, Hayden Kilgore, Jay Slater, Jimbo Garrard, Jerry Pendergraft, Norman Green, David Withers and Sterling Withers.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Kappa Sigma Fraternity of MSU.
