Mississippi State's baseball team continues to surge upward as No. 3 Texas A&M comes to Starkville for a three-game, Super Bulldog Weekend series against the No. 8 Bulldogs starting tonight,
Along with already matching last year’s win total with a 24-9-1 mark coming off a midweek win over Memphis, MSU also sit atop the Southeastern Conference Western Division standings with an 8-4 record in league play and have won five-straight series in the same season for the first time in 13 years.
The last four of those series wins came against SEC competition. Two of them came on the road. The most recent one was the most impressive yet when Mississippi State traveled to then-top-ranked Florida last weekend and took two out of three from the Gators.
By most accounts, this impressive run started for the Bulldogs when they swept Oregon in early March. For the members of the MSU team themselves, the success started much sooner as the members of the club bonded and developed the team chemistry that has sent the squad soaring.
“It started in the fall, but then it really gets real in the spring when you’re all in the same dugout, playing for the same team against another team,” State outfielder Brent Rooker said. “That’s when it starts to really click and it started early. The first weekend (of the season) we dropped two games. That was kind of a feeling-out process and since then, we’ve gotten rolling and we haven’t really looked back.”
