What a difference a good changeup can make for a pitcher.
After giving up six runs on seven hits to Southern California in his last outing one week ago, Mississippi State righthander Austin Sexton came back strong for the Bulldogs against the University of Oregon Ducks on Saturday.
Sexton went six strong innings and did not give up a run on four hits as MSU defeated Oregon 9-3 at Dudy Noble Field.
The existence of a changeup was the key to a good performance in Sexton’s mind.
“In my last outing, I had my fastball and slider and didn’t have much of a changeup,” Sexton said. “I think (Saturday) it was a factor and it was dancing all over the place.”
