Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department Commander Brett Watson said the victim in a shooting on Pierce Road Tuesday night will not cooperate with authorities in their investigation.
Authorities have not yet issued any formal charges in relation to the shooting, which occurred earlier this week.
Deputies responded to a call at approximately 11:40 a.m. Tuesday night in which a female sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported via ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora before being airlifted to NMMC in Tupelo, where she underwent surgery and is recovering in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Watson said she is in stable condition.
A person of interest has been identified and is in custody, but Watson said he will not release the subject’s name until charges are filed.
“We’re going to continue the investigation through some other means,” Watson said. “We’re not saying there won’t be any charges filed but there are none at this point.”
Why the victim refused to give information to authorities is unknown, Watson said.
He said there are no other people of interest involved in the incident as of Friday.
Pierce Road is located in the western portion of Oktibbeha County near the intersection of Sturgis Maben Road and Self Creek Road.
