The fall edition of unWINE Downtown will help jump start Starkville’s coming New South Weekend as city residents and out-of-town visitors prepare to take in all the city has to offer.

Jennifer Gregory, Greater Starkville Development Partnership Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Tourism Development, said the event, usually held on Thursdays, was repositioned in an effort to capitalize on the home-game traffic Starkville experiences.

“We moved the event to complete the New South Weekend activities and we thought it would be a great opportunity to invite visitors and State fans to participate,” she said. “We hope to broad the available audience for the event.”

Gregory said in an effort to garner more participation, an online payment system has been established.

“We’ve implemented a Paypal method of payment so people outside of Starkville can purchase tickets online,” she said. “They can find out information on ticket sales by visiting our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/mscollegetown and clicking on the unWINE tab, or by going to http://www.visit.starkville.org.”

Along with new methods of payment, Gregory said two new stores are participating in Friday’s event.

“Peak Nutrition and Merle Norman / Luna Bella will be joining us for the fall event,” she said. “We’re thrilled to have new participants and we hope they will experience the same retail promotion other participants have experienced through past events.”

Gregory said 19 stores will be participating Friday and newly-opened Scotty’s Wine and Spirits will provide 19 different red and white wines to be featured at each store or boutique that will offer a 20 percent discount to all participating visitors.

“They have been extremely helpful picking out the wines which are offered at $15 retail price or less, so it makes all of the wines very accessible if people enjoy them,” she said. “Scotty’s is also offering a 10 percent discount for all of our participants.”

Gregory said the fall event will feature a raffle that will help spread visibility to all participating stores.

“Participants that visit every featured store, their names will be put into a raffle and the winner will received a $25 gift card from each of our 19 stores,” she said. “We want to encourage people to visit the stores that are off of Main Street as well and we hope this will be a way to encourage that.”

Tickets for the fall unWINE Downtown are $20 and the event lasts from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Participants may pick up their wine glasses and a list of stores and featured wines in the GSDP lobby.
