MSU remains fourth after day two

WEST POINT – Mississippi State remains in fourth placed after two rounds of the inaugural Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational with a 598 team total.

The Lady Bulldogs stand at 22-over par which ranks among the best 36-hole totals in the programs history.
Additionally, State stands just 10 shots behind Southeastern Conference foe Kentucky.

“We are in a good position right now,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “All we need to do is cut a few strokes off (today), and we will have a great finish to open the season.”

MSU is paced by sophomore Ally McDonald who followed up an opening round of 74 with a 3-under-par round of 69 on Tuesday. The Fulton native carded three birdies on the front nine and matched here career-low round, State’s seventh-lowest round of all-time. McDonald is in fifth place heading into the final 18 holes of play.

Freshman Gabi Oubre’ turned in a 4-over-par 76 in the second round of her career. Her two-day 150 tied her for 15th.

After a first-round 73, sophomore Rica Tse turned in a 151. Mary Langdon Gallagher and Elena Warren rounded out the Lady Bulldogs’ leaderboard with a 154 and 161, respectively.

The event is led by Arkansas which stands at nine-over-par and fired the low round of the day at 291. Tulane, who held the lead after one round comes in second place at 10-over-par.

The Lady Bulldogs hold a nine-shot lead over fifth place Cincinnati heading into today’s final round that begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. MSU begins on tees No. 6 through No. 9.
