Hayes was born and reared in Macon. He attended East Mississippi Community College and Mississippi State University. Being a salesman came naturally to him since he hung around Southland Ford where his father was part owner, thus began his career. His favorite part of being a salesman was meeting people, forming friendships, laughing and sharing stories. His personality, heart and laughter were bigger than life, which caused him to be loved by so many. He was a member of Sturgis Baptist Church for the past ten years. Before that, he was a member of First United Methodist Church in Macon since childhood.
His love of God and family were the only things that came ahead of his love of MSU sports. He was an avid fan of Mississippi State football, baseball and basketball. This is one reason he and his wife moved to Starkville in 1999. Living in Starkville allowed him to attend as many games as possible.
He leaves behind his wife, Julia Ann Russell Daniel of Starkville; daughter, Judith Daniel of Oklahoma City, Okla.; step-son, Russell Mord of Sturgis; and step-daughter, Emily Mord Quinn of Fulton; brothers, Willie Daniel of Starkville and Joe Daniel of Slidell, La.; sister, Kathryn Daniel Harris of Florence; and four grandchildren.
Hayes was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Jewel Lewellen Daniel of Macon.
