Lady Wolverines improve softball record to 7-0

August 23, 2012

MABEN – The East Webster slowpitch softball team took care of business and improved its record to 7-0.

The Lady Wolverines beat Houston 5-2 Thursday afternoon at Nikki Jones Memorial Field.

"Everybody talks about wins and losses, but to us, our main goal is to just get better everyday," East Webster first-year head coach Lee Berryhill said. "Compete seven innings, work hard, give the effort and at the end of each game, see where we are at. We just play hard and give it all we've got. That's all we can do."

Sophomore Autumn Frost hit two home runs and pitcher Kendall Wilkinson tossed a gem.

The Lady Wolverines jumped out to an early lead. East Webster scored a run in both the first and second innings.

Frost hit her first home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the third to make it 3-0 Lady Wolverines. She then homered in the bottom of the fifth inning, this time to right field.

"She has a lot of pop in her bat," Berryhill said. "She hits the ball hard. Most of the times she will stay on top of it and hit line drives or hard ground balls. She has the ability to drive it out of the ball park too."

The reigning 4A State fastpitch champion Lady Hilltoppers managed two runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by Taylor Lancaster's RBI single.

A sacrifice fly by Wilkinson, driving in Madison Flemmings, added the final run for the Lady Wolverines.

East Webster is back in action Saturday when they compete in the South Pontotoc Tournament. They are slated to play Tupelo at 11:30 a.m. and Saltillo at 12:45 p.m.
